Have you ever been to Malaysia? You can find so many KFC in Malaysia. Actually, the most popular fast food restaurant in the world is Mc Donald's. However in Malaysia, I feel the amount of KFC store is almost same with Mc Donald's (It's not statistical).
I've stayed 5 months in Malaysia as a exchange student. When I was in there, I liked to learn about their history, culture, and religion. So I am awaked to many aspects of Malaysia. Being based on my experience, I will explain the reason why Malaysia has so many KFC.
'Melting pot', I think this word is suitable to understand Malaysia. Malaysia has various races. It is interesting compared other Asia nations that are usually known as 'racially homogeneous nations'.
There are 33%'s Malaies (local people in Malaysia), 33%'s Indians (They came to Malaysia through Bengal Bay because of various reason), and 33%'s Malay Chineses (They came from China or born in Malaysia from Chinese parents). So the culture, religion of Malaysia is very diverse like other melting pot nations.
Especially various religions of Malaysia make special culture. Malays who are Muslims don't eat the pork because of their doctrine. Most Indians who believe Hinduism don't eat the beef because of the same reason with Muslim. Because of these religional reason, Malaysia's culture of meal is very special.
1/3 of popularity don't eat the pork, other 1/3 of popularity don't eat the beef. What's left? YES, It's chicken. They have to eat only chicken to take protein. That's why Malaysia has many kinds of chicken food and has many KFC I guess.
Chicken is called as AYAM in Malay language. If you have a chance to go Malaysia, You can be happy with Ayam!!
*Mc Donald's in Malaysia also has many kinds of chicken menu than other countries. I think that's why Mc Donald's have survived long time around the world.
